This
walk is from the cul-de-sac that runs alone the side of Lough Dan,
whose entrance is just beyond the Old Bridge on the Roundwood –
Laragh road. There are places on this cul-de-sac to safely park and
just continue on foot. The sealed road will continue to climb up over
the lough and then into the slopes of Kanturk mountain. After
crossing a stream the public section of the road seems to end but
turn left and after a short distance a sign indicate a footpath to
Kanturk mountain. This footpath will take you up over Lough Dan with
spectacular views of the lough and surrounding mountains. If you wish
to go further then continue on until the footpath crosses a gravel
road going down to the bottom of the glen. I took this road but I did
not venture far when it ended at the bottom of the glen.
