The
start of the walk is at the entrance to Ballinafunshoge Woods on the
Sally Gap Road just before the Guinness' Estate. I am actually
assuming the woods has the same name of the mountain on which
they lie. The Google Map mentions a townland nearby so it may go by
the name "Luggala". Anyway it forms part of the Wicklow Way so it can
be easily found.
There
is good room to part at the entrance to the woods. The route is along
the Wicklow Way at the start, but turns to the right at the first
junction, as shown on the map. Following this forest road uphill and
finally out of the forest into uphill moorland. The scenery is
spectacular. I decided to return along the edge of the forest but
found the going difficult with the large amount of melt-water. If the
ground was dryer and the weather better I would have been more
advantageous.
